Historical Background
The PMATCOM ’s activities were
formerly under the umbrella of the Office des Personnes Handicapées du Québec
(OPHQ).
When the OHPQ’s activities with respect to the need for augmentative
and alternative communication (AAC) aids were transferred, the MHSS
issued an open tender in order to designate a PMATCOM national
trust.
On Oct. 1, 1998, Marie Enfant Rehabilitation Centre of Sainte-Justine CHU
was selected and it has managed the program ever since.
Over the last five years, the program has dealt with nearly 2,000 requests and
has loaned more than 2,500 assistive technology devices
.
