How are the request handled?

Requests for the allocation of assistive technology devices through the PMATCOM are made by specific health care professionals working to meet the cleint's needs in the health and social service sector.

These health care professionals (speech-language pathologist/occupational therapists) assess needs and have the client try out assistive technology devices. They then send their recommendations and requests to the PMATCOM .

Requests are studied by a group of expert clinicians who in turn pass on their recommendations to the PMATCOM. If necessary, complementory trial may be recommended before a response is given. Clients and therapists receive a written decision.

The PMATCOM subsequently distributes the devices and recovers them when they are no longer being used.
